I'm a multi genre dj based out of Long Beach Ca. I play out anywhere from 3 to 4 nights a week. From large Music festivals, Dive Bars, Clubs, Loft parties, Turntable battles, Raves, Tickle fights and more. Here are some tunes, mixes, and events that I think are worth yapping about.
From beginning to end, The Xx's debut self-titled album is an amazing display of post punk, indie, synth pop, and moody tunes. I first heard about them at Coachella 2010 which is when they dropped their first album. Very excited to hear what they're cooking up for 2012 and am hoping they tour So Cal asap! The biggest track off of the their debut is "Crystallised", and was featured for the HBO promotions of the hit series True Blood. Since the band has gone on hiatus the only person to my knowledge that has been keeping busy is Jaime Xx. Jamie who is the percussionist / Synths for the band has been putting out some pretty good production and remixes for the likes of Florence and the Machine, Radiohead, and Adele (to name his more mainstream projects) with a nice origianl twist. He has even done an essential mix for BBC's Radio One that is definately worth a listen. Can't wait for the new album!
Brilliant new album from beginging to end. Available on vinyl and cassette tape!
• Complete with fast-forward and rewind functions
• Nostalgic warbly sound
• Plays in that shitty car of yours
• Have the album weeks before anyone else
• Rip it to digital for mega-props from blog-sucking scum
Quality tune from M83. I've been giving it a lot of rotation in the clubs lately. If they're album is even half as good as "Midnight City", then we are all in for a serious treat.
Picked this record up when I was in Nyc. I love Franz and Shape, plenty of good tracks from them. They have a really cool vibe with a gothish and sometimes postpunk type undertone. I could file them under Ebm, Dark Electro, Indie, and electroclash genres. Check them out. If you like them, buy there music.
It's no secret that I've been loving Gesaffelstein's music these past few months. Been dropping his tracks every chance I get. Quality dark techno that has an industrial vibe. Hands down, favorite producer at the moment. I can drop his tunes at a rave or Goth club, and it would rock both alike! This track is a perfect example. It was just released on tues 7/19. It's just a sample clip, but I highly recommend picking this release up.
Its Goose's newer track "Words" but with Front 242 visuals.. It sounds pretty legit. Reminds me of a dark wave / industrial / dark electro type tune. Heard Erol Alkan play a bad ass remix of it but I'm not sure what remix it was. Maybe it was his own.
For today's flashback Friday I dug up something really special and rare for you guys. Got this mix about 5 or 6 years ago, and the cd now goes for $75 on line (rare and out of print). Still one of my favorite mixes to date. It is mixed and compiled by the dirty djs that used to rock Ms. Kitty's Parlor before it ended its rain of debauchery at the Dragon Fly. Here is Mr. M, Henry Self, and Barbeau (Barbeau of Dirty Sanchez) and some hilarious voice clips from some of the Miss Kitty's posse. Just a side not, Mr. M and Henry Self now have a dj duo called Slash Fiction, you guys should definitely check them out. I played with Barbeau years ago at the Spider club above the Avalon, but I'm not sure if he's still making music. This mix is loaded with timeless electro, Nu Disco and electroclash anthems, I'm still not tired of it! Enjoy.
Great tune. African-ish meets reggaeton-ish type of baseline and percussian with some sexy almost dirty feeling spanish from Maluca. I'm not a fan of reggaeton at all, but these guys really knows how to take elements of that sound and make some amazing music. Can't wait to catch Diplo and Dillon Francis at Hard Fest. Pure sexy dance music!
Live set from a great underground warehouse party in Long Beach on 06/04/11.

Ok, I haven't post on my blog for about 3 weeks but I am done with the neglect now. I'm going to make up for not posting by putting this amazing mix by Boys Noize and Scissor Sisters. What it sounds like? "The Fierceness of 10,000 trannies coming down upon you".. Quote from the mix, hehe. This mix is amazing! It is mellow acid house, splashed with electro and techno, all put together with a cool disco vibe. I would say its Gay Acid Disco House on a mellow tip. Great for a long car ride, great for background music while you're working and just relaxing. just overall an awesome mix. But of course... What the hell else would you expect from a Boys Noize and Scissor Sisters collaboration. Enjoy! I sure as shit did.
Every Friday I'll post a flash back of music ranging from the 50s to the early 2000s. For today, the first ever Flash Back Friday on my blog.... Banging house mix from one of the best dj's and performers to come out of the United States, the one and only party starter... Mr. Donald Glaude. Glaude is amazing to watch now, in the past, and will continue to be in the future! I've had the pleasure of sharing the decks with him at a gig in Vegas and he is as nice as he is talented. Really great guy. Here we go, Donald Glaude's Essential Mix from March 24, 2002. This is definitely one of those mixes that will stand the test of time. Starts the mix out a bit tribal, then works it into full blown funky flavored beats!
I'm a big fan of The XX and would categorize their sound as very dark, gloomy, and romantic. I can't quite compare them to any other bands out there at the moment, which makes them that much more enjoyable and great to listen too. On this Turbo release their song "Shelter" gets a proper remix from Turbo Recordings founder (and one of my idols), Tiga. From electroclash, to electro house, and even dark techno, regardless of what direction he takes a song, Tiga always manages to put his original and unique twist on things. The combination of The XX and Tiga, has given this tune a bit of a trip hop feel to it, very reminiscent of Portis Head and 90s Sneaker Pimps. I can definitely see it on the same play list as those bands. This track is full of emotion and can be categorized as a break up song or love song alike. Soothing meets dismal at the same time, I love it.
I'm not a "Goth" but I do love the music and culture of that scene. I can definitely be spotted at the occasional LA or OC goth club and even catch a gig here and there mixing up Dark Wave, Synth Pop and Industrial. Well... If you actually listen at the clubs to what I'm playing when I'm spinning 80s or Electro, there's a good chance you'll here me sneak in a few Ebm tracks or a lot of dark 80s or Gothic (Depends on my mood and crowd). I have a lot of friends old and new, that love Indie, Electro, Techno and so on, yet a lot of people sleep on goth orientated genres. Trust me, you don't have to be goth to like the music. If you're a music lover, don't sleep on the tunes that come out of this scene. There are goth icons such as Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 that I don't even really associate with goth, but more so with a raw techno sound. Clanks, noise, machines = TECHNO. I took the liberty of listing some of my favorite goth orientated anthems (If you are already into these type of genres, then some of these track may make you yawn cause you've heard them a million times). There are definitely some gems to be found. You can stream each song from the links I provided, so you don't have to download a track if you don't like it... But trust me, you will like them all! Aside from the tracks I listed, here are some artists I recommend checking out. Various goth orientated genres: The beginners guide... Nitzer ebb, Front 242, Bigod 20, And One VnV Nation, Covenant, The Retrosic, Nine Inch Nails (especially Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral), Wumpscut, Chris & Cosey, Fad Gadget, Marc Almond, Wolfsheim, Clan of Xymox, DeVision, Visage, Joy Division, The Cure (Pornography album is amazing)... There.. Now you're set with some basics.. Go Dig for music!
New release from Djedjotronic on the Boys Noize record label. Djedjotronic is super talented. He can produce quality electro, as well as ghetto booty beats (one of my personal favorites from him is "Dirty & Hard"), and with this release he bangs out techno. "Tetris" is my favorite, I can play it over and over and not get sick of it. Solid bass line, hypnotic bleeps and the percussion to match. This track is fire! Even if the techno side of things isn't your cup of tea and you only like the electro vibe, I think you'll still dig on this tune."Bugle" is an ok cut, my only criticism is that it can get a little too glitchy for my taste. Don't get me wrong I like glitchy, just something about it doesn't do it for me. I do enjoy the nice break down though.
I love many of his tracks and remixes, however I was kind of disappointed with his set at Coachella. I mean, it was great for that style of music, but it was too kiss fm meets power 106 flavored electro for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate all styles of music and I do enjoy quality pop, I just expected a different set from Luke. From what I caught of him at EDC 2010, his set was much better there. When he played a bootleg of "Better of Alone", I died a little inside. Maybe if I were 15, in the 90s, and just discovered extacy for the first time, then it would have been cool. I have mad respect for him, just giving my honest opinion. I know some of my friends dug it, and you may dig it too. Here it is. Laidback Luke's set, recorded live at Coachella.
A British company called And Vinyly promises to do just that for a fee of £3,000. Pets and body parts accepted. After your passing, rotate forever on your relatives’ turntables. I'd get pressed as a kraftwerk tune or maybe Snoop Dogg's Gin & Juice.

I don't know much about this band other than they are a talented young trio based out of Moscow called Junehunters. They are made up of 2 dudes and a skirt, all three of whom are extremely talented. They are putting out some quality summer of love flavored music layered with analog synths and a classic rock meets bluesy guitar type vibe. Whether you like to lace your bandana with tabs of acid and listen to 60's rock, or you moved to Silver Lake because you thought it would make you a hipster , you definitely don't want to sleep on this band. These ruskies know how to rock!! They have 5 great songs you can check out at http://soundcloud.com/junehunters Me likey long time. Oh yes! Wouldn't be surprised to see them on a Coachella side stage in 2012. Enjoy! I did.
I'm really loving Gesaffelstein's music right now. He walks a fine line between techno and electro and has been cranking out some quality tunes. The way he uses his percussion and bleeps in all of his songs is ace! Dark, driving, and banging. Definately man of the hour in my opinion. I even sense some lingering elements that remind me of 80s industrial, on a Nizter ebb or Front 242 type tip. Just a vibe I get from some of his music
303 overload with this solild Acid track from Boys Noize. I love his style and whether its techno or electro, his productions are always legit. Banging track, but what else would you expect from the Boys Noize camp.
Nice progressive beat that works itself into a good latin break down. After the latin suprise kicks in, the track drops back into to a quality progressive track. I dig it.
Great tune. African-ish meets reggaeton-ish type of baseline and percussian with some sexy almost dirty feeling spanish from Maluca. I'm not a fan of reggaeton at all, but Diplo really knows how to take elements of that sound and make some amazing music.
I won Dj mag's first letsmix contest with this mix. Unforntunately I didn't check my email til 4 days after I was notified. When I got back to them, they had to go with the runner up for the magazine spread due to print deadlines. I was crushed but whadya gonna do, right? So here it is for all you you to listen to.This stream player stops at 40 mins but the actual mix is an hour and 8 mins long if you download it from the mediafire link. The 2nd half of the mix is Drum n Bass, Dubstep, and more.
